make package: Provide shim for "gmake"

Some project builds invoke GNU make as "gmake", which breaks in environments where GNU make is provided only as "make".

Please add a soft-link shim or similar so that build scripts referencing "gmake" can run better in Alpine.

alpine linux already fully installed on USB, can I still boot from RAM?

I installed Alpine Linux with a complete installation in a USB drive (I have persistency without lbu).
I would like to tell Alpine to load all in RAM when booting so I can remove the hard drive and boot from another computer.

Can I do that with my installation or I have to take another USB key and install it without persistency and use lbu?

Hi!

Why doesn't have a precompiled emacs package for aarch64? https://bugs.alpinelinux.org/issues/8362 reported successful compilation 3 months ago without response.

Is there some official way to contact the maintainer (stef)?

apk behind corporate proxy which has a self signed certificate

Hello all,

for some time now i have been trying to get apk to work in a Dockerfile, using a corporate proxy which has a self signed certificate.

i tried to import the CA, Intermediate and the cert in pem format to /etc/ssl/certs, /etc/ssl but i always get

139718424861644:error:14007086:SSL routines:CONNECT_CR_CERT:certificate verify failed:ssl_clnt.c:1026:

The setup is roughly as follows (its a Django app) :

Dockerfile:

FROM python:3.7-rc-alpine
...
ENV APK_OPTS --no-cache --repository 'https://bla/latest-stable/main'
...
ADD $APP_CERT_DIR /etc/ssl/certs/
...
RUN apk add $APK_OPTS musl gcc libxml2-dev libxslt-dev musl-dev libxml2 libxslt

any clues would be greatly appreciated ;)

Dear all,
I'm new here, so I hope, I'm not doing something wrong.
I installed Alpine Linux in sys mode to SD on a Raspberry Pi.

In the evening of 2018-02-28 my /var/log/messages stopped logging.

Today I investigated on this an found, in this evening during a update the startup order of klogd and syslog changed.

/etc/init.d/klogd
  BEFORE need clock hostname localmount
  AFTER  need clock hostname localmount syslog
 
/etc/init.d/syslog
  BEFORE need clock hostname klogd localmount
  AFTER  need clock hostname localmount

Why did this change? How can I boil it down to understand the problem.

After changing it back an a reboot, my iptables logs to /var/log/messages again.
Without the change, service restart and reboot did not help.

But the sshd-login-messages are still missing...
I can't find any further changes regarding this inside /etc/.

Any suggestions?

HI All,

I am brand new to Alpine having come from Arch and am so far very impressed.
As well as embedded small machines I would like to replace my desktop machines with Alpine, but find I cannot install my favourite desktop "Gnome3"

The meta-package "gnome-base" doesn't exist any more and many of the other packages like metacity gnome-panel etc are no longer there ..
Is there any way to get more support for this desktop ... pretty please ..

On another issue: I have been running Alpine/xfce in a bhyve VM. It runs fine except the resolution is only 1024x768 (instead of the requested 1920x1080).
Is there any planned support for running better in bhyve?
