linux hardened kernel build fails for alpine-3.6

Hi,

I am trying to build the kernel hardened for alpine-3.6. But it fails at
autoconf build which is one of the dependency. I am using alpine-3.6 VM to
build the kernel using sdk(abuild).

Hi,

I just installed Alpine 3.7 on my old Macbook Pro

Specs:
Apple MacBook Pro 15" late 2008 (5,1)
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M

Installing Alpine went really well (I never enjoyed installing Linux that much)

However the backlight of the screen is stuck on the lowest level, which is unusable during the day
and there seems to be no way to change that.

/sys/class/backlight exists but is empty. The fn Keys won't work.
xbacklight tells me that there is not output it can use.

Has anyone installed Alpine on a Macbook with NVIDIA cards?

Battery Status in htop

On User account, htop is unable to get the battery status.

It works on root.

Am I missing something?

Hello everyone !

I'm using alpine linux in a Raspberry pi 3.
I've yet to understand why when I try too remove the login console (ttyS0) it keeps adding itself in inittab when I reboot :

# enable login on alternative console
ttyS0::respawn:/sbin/getty -L 115200 ttyS0 vt100

Basicly if I comment the line it just pop another one, and If I remove it, the same thing happen.

before anyone asks, I do "lbu ci -d" before rebooting :)

someone having a clue here ?

so, i've got a raspberry pi with an 800x480 screen, and i can't get it to work with alpine.

the docs for raspbian are here: http://www.raspberrypiwiki.com/index.php/3.5_inch_TFT_800x480@60fps

i've tried every permutation of everything i can think of, and can't get it to work. for raspbian it's just drop a dt-blob.bin file in /boot, and add a few lines to config.txt.

anybody have ideas?

3TB external drive only seen as 746GB

Hello I have been having a hard time getting a hard drive in an external usb enclosure to work on my mini pc. The drive worked just fine on Debian and windows. I tried to mount it inside of alpine and it didn't want to mount so i formatted the drive using dd to zero the drive in hopes to have alpine play nice with it. The drive still only shows as 746GB or so depending on which program you use. If I plug the drive into my windows machine it shows as 3tb no problem. Considering Windows can use the 3tb I do not believe its a hardware problem. Any advice would be much appreciated.

edac-utils support

Are you planning to edac modules to the kernel? I compiled the edac-utils since they are not available as a package. Unfortunately, there are no edac module in the kernel and hence it did not work. Could you add these modules to the testing kernel? For example, in Arch there are at least 15 different edac modules for different ECC controllers. Any help would be appreciated.

I know Alpine kernels are harden for security. My question is would you lose any of the security benefits when Alpine is running in a LXD container on Ubuntu 16.04? I'm simply trying to understand how this type configuration would affect security.

ahoy all,

currently System Rescue CD provides a single downloadable image that includes both kernels for both 32 (x86) and 64 (x86-64) bit architectures

while i am still trying to figure out how exactly this is done, is there any way to accomplish the same thing in Alpine? they use GRUB and i see what seems to be 2 kernels:

RESCUE32.
RESCUE64.

in the /ISOLINUX directory of the ISO image, so perhaps they are deciding during GRUB bootup what to do? while i realize that the configuration of GRUB for this setup is beyond the scope of this forum (though appreciated if you understand GRUB well), my main question is how to install Alpine to provide both 32 and 64 bit support on the same USB drive, SD card, etc?
