Hi everybody!

So these are the Alpine Linux forums... I really was very happy when I read the news that Alpine finally added what I was probably missing the most. I'm not the IRC-loving kind of guy anyway and thanks to the various time zones I absolutely prefer forums over live channels when it comes to international communities.

But there's probably nothing more frustrating for admins who put time into setting up forums and decided to dedicate even more of it to manage and moderate them - and then nobody shows up! And for the user, too, an (almost) empty or even seemingly dead forum is not a nice place at all. That's why I thought I'd join you people here and help populate it a little!

I've been participating in many forums so far and I noticed that this one is kept rather small (intentionally as I read in this thread) which I think is a good idea. Yet I'm missing a few things. I'm not a big fan of forum games and such things but having a sub forum for new people to introduce themselves (and others to welcome them) is something I've come to appreciate. It can support the development of communities (especially in smaller ones it's nice to get to know the others who are interested in coming back now and then instead of posting just once).

Also it's always a good idea to start a few threads where almost everybody can participate. It helps to create that "warm feeling" which is IMHO needed (or at least is very helpful) for starting an active forum community. But since just talking about it doesn't lead anywhere, I'll simply do it soon (as time permits).

This sounds like a good idea to me.
