Alpine Linux on Desktop Remaster

I am interested in building a remaster of Alpine Linux. Can anyone tell me what build system Alpine Linux is using? I would like to start from the hobby level of remastering it so that it boots into a graphical desktop with some auto detection and configuration capabilities.

Should I be starting with something like BLFS or is a starting point not publicly available?
