Has anyone successfully installed a custom firmware on a diskless system or run-from-RAM install? I have followed the sparse answer to the FAQ "How can I install a custom firmware in a diskless system?" https://wiki.alpinelinux.org/wiki/Alpine_Linux:FAQ#How_can_I_install_a_custom_firmware_in_a_diskless_system.3F with no success.
Ultimately I'd like to have Alpine move /lib/modules to my HD in a data mode installation so I may installed edge packages. With a data mode install, /lib/modules is a read only image.

Just a followup: I was able to successfully create a custom ISO using Alpine version 3.5 RC 7 from the edge repository.
