Xfce getting black screen

Just did a fresh install of Alpine in Virtualbox and installed Xfce as per many other comments on the forum, actually installing correctly for the first time. Awesome! But starting Xfce meets me with a black screen that doesn't seem to want to do anything. I saw a few other people on the forum are also having this problem. Any solutions?
