Hi,
I would like to try an Alpine Fluxbox DE, but don't know how to build a full DE. So anyone who uses Fluxbox DE based on Alpine?
Which packages have to be installed and how to configure it well?
Packages like fluxbox, lxdm, lightdm, pcmanfm, lxterminal, chromium (or alternatives...) have to be installed, but what's with other needed packages to get the comfort of a full DE? Auto mounting usb devices, system notifications, wifi, battery management, ...
Depends on what features you want. Notifications, try OSDNotify. Power management try powertop. For wifi take a look at the wiki.
Or just try lxde and use Fluxbox with it.
There is a great Manjaro Fluxbox community build
https://forum.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=27152.0
But I think the theme could be a lot of work... I haven't build a theme myself.
For this particular Fluxbox DE the following is missing from the repos
numix-reborn-suite (theme)
plymouth
fbmenugen
plank
Once those are built, putting it all together should be straightforward, but lengthy (the tweeking takes time).
They also have Manjaro-Welcome and Manjaro-Settings-Manager which will add to the chrome if packaged.
I removed plank because of a layer problem (show / hide won't work with fullscreen windows).
Plymouth sounds like a eye-candy feature (flicker-free graphical boot process)? So it isn't important for me
Chromium wasn't able to start with Alpine, Xorg and Fluxbox because of a gpu / gl error message. Would be important to solve.
Is fbmenugen used to refresh the Fluxbox root menu (right click menu)? Would be great to have.
A modern theme would be fine. Needn't to be the manjaro theme. Nice colors, rounded windows, ...
Packages like pavucontrol and volumeicon are missing. Is there a alternative as X11 volume widget?
